Compete & Condition is a high calorie/energy feed for horses and ponies that need to put on or maintain weight and condition. It is also ideal for competition horses and ponies, or those in higher levels of work.

Being whole cereal grain and molasses free it is higher in fibre and lower in starch and sugar than traditional conditioning feeds. The energy that Compete & Condition supplies comes from its high fibre and oil content which is an excellent source of slow release, stamina giving energy.
Compete & Condition contains a good level of high-quality protein sources, which alongside exercise, provides the horse with the building blocks for top line development and maintenance. It is a balanced feed that, when fed at recommended amounts according to body weight and workload, will provide the horse with a fully balanced diet inclusive of essential vitamins and minerals. It also contains a probiotic and a blend of prebiotics for healthy digestion and added linseed – a good source of Omega 3.

Why has the name changed?

When Calm & Condition launched in 2001, it provided owners with an alternative to the high cereal content, high starch and sugar competition feeds available on the market at the time. Quickly becoming a very popular choice, Calm & Condition fell into the low starch and sugar bracket for competition/conditioning feeds. As our understanding of horse’s dietary requirements has developed, and feeds have moved towards high fibre, very low starch and sugar, Calm & Condition’s place in the market has shifted from our only high-calorie, low-starch feed to one better suited for horses in higher levels of work. Due to these reasons, to ensure owners select the most beneficial feed for their horses, we have renamed Calm & Condition to Compete & Condition- the same great feed, but with a new name.

DO NOT FEED DRY –THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS UNMOLASSED SUGAR BEET AND MUST BE SOAKED FOR 10 MINUTES BEFORE FEEDING. Introduce a new feed gradually over 7 to 10 days building up to the amounts needed to maintain condition and energy levels (0.25 – 5.0kg depending on size, type, workload and condition). Place feed in a shallow bucket, add twice as much water as feed, then stir. Wait for 10 minutes before feeding this product. Unmolassed chaff or soaked Fast Fibre can be added after soaking, if adding unmolassed chaff, stir well before feeding. This feed is not suitable for horses and ponies prone to laminitis. Fast Fibre could be a suitable feed, please call us for more information. Do not feed to sheep. This feed is made from natural ingredients, so may change colour slightly through the seasons, or take longer to soak. If the feed is not soaking quickly enough, please leave to soak for longer, or soak the feed in warm water, then stir, until it forms a nice soft mash.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ: To get the best results from Compete & Condition, please make sure that you do not feed any other products that contain barley or molasses. Many traditional feeds contain barley and/or molasses which can cause excitability in some horses. Even horses that do not become fizzy as a result of these ingredients can benefit from a low starch and sugar feed such as Compete & Condition.

Please note, all feed amounts are in dry weight, per day. Do not feed more than 2kg (1 1/3 Stubbs Scoops) dry weight per meal.

  • I struggled with Elmo’s weight last winter. I called Allen & Page who recommended Cool & Collected, which he loved. He definitely improved, however once the spring grass had been munched down he started to drop weight again. I reported back to Allen & Page who suggested moving Elmo up to Calm & Condition. He is now maintaining the perfect weight, looks fantastic and remained trainable. Thank you Allen & Page!

  • My Thoroughbred began to lose weight as he got older. I contacted Allen & Page and transitioned Beau onto Calm & Condition, which he loves! Since being on this, Beau is gaining weight and has a brilliant shine! Beau raced for 12 years and at 20 years old he’s still going strong, thanks to Allen & Page will be looking good for years to come!

  • I wanted to thank you for your wonderful feeds. When we purchased Royal Opera, he was a bag of bones, with gastric ulcers and serious attitude. A hurdler of Cheltenham Festival ability, he had fallen on hard times through dubious owners. He is now fed on Calm & Condition, and is looking great, with a much improved attitude. He has since been retrained, and can be seen eventing at BE100, he also qualified for the 2018 ROR showing championships.

  • My horse Silver Duchess was a rescue at the young age of two. She was skin and bones and was very malnourished. I tried every feed I could think of, but nothing helped increase her weight and top-line. My vet recommended Allen & Page Barley and Molasses Free Range to me about six years ago as although lacking in nutrition Silver was very excitable in her behaviour.

Calm & Condition was recommended to me by the equine nutritionists at Allen & Page and I have never looked back. For nearly six years I have solely fed Silver on this feed and the difference is remarkable. I feed it all year around too.

Silver Duchess is now an advanced level endurance horse competing regularly. Her weight now is amazing after gaining nearly 250kg over the years. Calm & Condition provides Silver with all the nutrients for Endurance and she loves nothing more than to tuck into a bucket after a competition!

  • I run a busy hunting yard, we have 18 horses in work of a variety of ages and types. It is important to us that they always look fantastic and feel well as they are often for sale and/or hire. I simply cannot afford to let a horse lose condition- it would be very difficult given the time of year and work load to regain it and we are very much in the public eye. It is also of equal importance they are safe, level headed and sensible for all types of rider as often I simply don’t know the experience or each person that comes to ride or hunt here.

After many years of trial and error swapping between straight feeds, mixes and wasting time and money on feeds that did nothing but add fizz it has been such a relief over the past two seasons to have settled on Calm & Condition- I feel very comfortable and happy feeding all of mine and have noticed a huge difference in condition maintenance and improvement among the poorer doers that arrive here. I also find it very cost effective given the ingredients mean that no expensive balancers/supplements are needed.

  • "Your feed has made a wonderful improvement to both my horses. My more advanced horse has been fed on Calm & Condition for 6 years, and he is staying the perfect weight while still having enough energy to compete at PSG level, without blowing his brain! My younger horse has been fed on Calm & Condition since we’ve had him and has gained so much condition and extra energy. They are both feeling amazing and I really believe it’s due to a foundation of a really good, nutritious diet that you provide for them. Thank you!"

  • I have been feeding Allen & Page feed for about 10 years now and I will never change. I have a variety of horses on my yard including cobs, hunters, dressage horses and eventers. I buy horses to bring on and produce. I have often bought horses in very poor condition and with Allen & Page feed I have seen a noticeable improvement in the horse’s condition in as little as two weeks.

I find particularly with Fast Fibre and Calm & Condition the feeds are great for weight management without heating the horses up. My hunters are fed on Calm & Condition all season with no need for anything extra to be added.

It’s just fabulous to have such reliable and good quality feed products available.

I always recommend Allen & Page feed to all my contacts, friends and family.
