HEY PRESTO! HARD WORK PAYING OFF WITH FRESCO

Cassy Beadsmoore-Dunk capped an excellent weekend at the St Austell Bay Equestrian Club's dressage show at Barguse Arena near St Austell with a series of promising performances on her five-year-old pure bred 16.2hh Lusitano gelding Vento Fresco.

"My New Year's resolution was to really knuckle down with Vento," said Cassy, who lives near Lockengate, St Austell.

"I've had lots of ups and downs with him over the past two years but I've tried to keep positive. I've worked extremely hard over the past year, taking him out to as many different places as I could in order to get him used to new environments.

"Up until now we'd never been placed in a competition but with help from Lisa Todd at Barguse our hard work has started to pay off. We recently clocked up our first win at Tall Trees Arena in the prelim 15 on a score of 66%. This filled me with confidence and started an incredible weekend of success for us."

Cassy and her striking grey gelding went onto secure third place in the prelim 17 on a score of 76.25% at the Camelford-based centre.

"I was really chuffed as there were a lot of affiliated riders competing at Tall Trees and the standard was very high," said 24-year-old Cassy, who combines competing with her busy career as South West Area Sales Manager for the feed company Allen and Page.

Following their confidence booster at Tall Trees Arena, Cassy and Vento headed for the St Austell Bay Equestrian Club's dressage show at Barguse where they finished in the ribbons.

"I'm hoping we've finally cracked it," said Cassy.

"For a horse never having been placed before it was an amazing weekend."

Cassy, who has a long-standing fascination for the Lusitano breed, is also the proud owner of her 14-year-old part-bred gelding Maestro.

"Maestro's been my rock these past years," said Cassy, who originally worked with the Lusitano breed at the Turville Valley Stud in Oxfordshire.

"I bought Vento as a three-year-old entire from the stunt rider Lucinda Wynn and to put it mildly we have had two very very turbulent years together.

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped me with him. Particularly to Lisa Todd who's increased our percentage dramatically.

"It's been a huge learning curve and massive leap for us both. But I can now look forward to taking the first step into affiliated competition which should give us good preparation for the Lusitano Breed Society Annual Breed Show in July."
