Allen & Page Trial Proves Great Success
Following a highly successful and incredibly popular Barley & Molasses Free Range Trial, Allen & Page has analysed the results and picked the winners. “The response to this trial has been phenomenal,” explains Allen & Page Marketing Manager Clara Baillie-Lane. “We received an exceptional response with many of the returned feed diaries demonstrating outstanding improvements which made judging a very tough task. We have been taken aback by the amazing results some people have had on this trial – customer feedback for the Barley & Molasses Free Range has always been very good but the trial has further strengthened this with some truly impressive transformations!”
The winners of free feed for a year all showed dramatic improvement in condition, behaviour and energy levels after just four weeks on one of the Barley & Molasses Free Range feeds. Sue Vincent from Norfolk, Wendy Searle from South Devon, Lesley Craigie from Scotland, Kerry Beere from Leicester and Sarah Sykes from Middlesborough were all the lucky recipients of free feed for a year, with ten other horse owners receiving £100 or £50 worth of feed vouchers. “We are very excited that so many people have reported back real improvements and we now hope to replicate these great results with our Veteran Vitality Challenge,” continued Clara.
The results are in from the completed feed diaries…
Body condition After just four weeks on the Barley & Molasses Free Range Trial, 68% of owners reported that their horse’s body condition had improved, and a further 15% of owners reported significant improvement. Calm & Condition clearly performed as its name suggests, with a staggering 90% of people finding that their horse’s body condition had improved during the Trial. Sarah Sykes owns Riley, a 16-year-old Thoroughbred in light to medium work. She says: “We bought Riley just out of racing. He was in a poor state, was underweight and lacking in top line and condition. After four weeks on Calm & Condition, he has definitely put on weight – his condition all round has improved to a nice shape and much better top line. He is looking the best he has ever looked!” Sarah Stubbins fed 20-year-old Arab cross Miranda on Fast Fibre and quickly noticed that her lumpy, allergic skin improved: “Previously she had a lumpy tone; this has disappeared. She looks amazing. When we bought her eight months ago she was very underweight and in poor condition. This feed is amazing; in four weeks she has looked and behaved better than ever.”
Coat condition The Barley & Molasses Free Trial also produced some impressive transformations in coat condition: after four weeks, 64% of horses improved in coat condition, and a further 21% showed significant improvement. Teresa Clancy had looked after 32-year-old Arab Champ for many years, but was beginning to worry that his age was starting to catch up with him. “His coat was a bit flat and dull, lacking normal shine and lustre. His coat condition is paramount to prevent mud-fever like skin eruptions. Champ has Cushing’s disease and was also struggling to chew hay.” After switching Champ to quick-soak Fast Fibre, Teresa was impressed by the results. “His overall condition shows improvement. His coat feels better and his skin has been free of eruptions over the summer. Without doubt, Fast Fibre is the simplest, quickest, fuss-free feed to prepare and most practical to feed. He showed improvement after just two weeks and a marked difference in his outline in four weeks. You wouldn’t know he had Cushing’s, looking at him now.”
Energy levels One of the key concerns for many horse owners is how to keep their horses’ energy levels up without making them too ‘fizzy’. After four weeks on the Barley & Molasses Free Range Trial, a remarkable 81% of owners saw their horses’ energy levels improve. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the feed with the most impact was Power & Performance – almost half of horses on this feed were deemed to have shown significant improvement, with an amazing 95% showing improvement of some level. Wendy Searle introduced her 12-year-old Trakehner Tally to Power & Performance after finding him nippy, grumpy and lethargic. “Wow, this is unbelievable. I tried this feed because of its name – power and performance were the two things my horse lacked. Not any more! He just won the dressage and did a double clear at his first one-day event. His body and coat condition is really good, we get compliments everywhere we go. He is still quite sparky, but in a controlled way. He is bright eyed and bushy tailed, literally.”
Behaviour Behaviour was another key area of the Barley & Molasses Free Range Trial, and happily the results here too are something to shout about. 83% of horses showed improvement in their behaviour after just four weeks. This time it was Ride & Relax that came out on top, with 88% horses on this feed demonstrating improvement in behaviour. Lesley Craigie wanted to calm down her four-year-old Warmblood, Idris, and improve his concentration. “He had got into the habit of bucking severely whenever he was asked to do something. I totally lost my confidence and dreaded the thought of riding him. I started feeding him Calm & Condition and was shocked at how quickly it started to work. He feels like a different horse now and is a pleasure to be around. I know it is due to feeding Calm & Condition as this was the only thing I changed. I want to thank you for giving me my dream horse.”
