Horses in historical charity ride
Thursday 22 September 2011
Allen & Page has recently provided advice and feed for six horses taking part in a 50 mile endurance ride called Sharpe’s March to raise money for destitute children around the world.
Sharpe’s March has been set up thanks to some of the actors involved in the popular television series Sharpe, who witnessed appalling conditions for orphaned and abandoned children when filming in areas such as Portugal, Ukraine, Crimea, Turkey and India. The impact of the human devastation the actors witnessed resulted in the establishment of The Sharpe’s Children Foundation. The driving force behind the foundation’s initiative is Daragh O’Malley who played Sergeant Patrick Harper in the television series and Daragh has been joined by many of the 214 actors who appeared in the series through the years. The group of actors, Napoleonic re-enactors and members of the public will march over 50 miles of beautiful countryside from Marlborough to Reading in three days. Horses from a number of groups including the Royal Horse Artillery and the 12th, 15th and 16th Light Dragoons will be involved and Allen & Page sales manager Simone Highmore was on hand to help six horses get ready for their starring roles.
Horse owner and partcipant Julie Robertson explains: “One of my horses, Josh, has had major liver problems but he has been on Fast Fibre and Power & Performance and he has made a full recovery and is fit and ready to go for this ride.” Josh is just one of around 30 horses involved in this epic charity trek and to find out more or donate to the cause visit www.sharpesmarch.com
