Scurry Win for Sarah
Friday 15 October 2010
The final for the Osborne Refrigerators Double Harness Scurry Championships at this year’s Horse of the Year Show was hotly contested. The very deserving winner was Sarah Cooke and her ponies Bow and Arrow, otherwise known as Henry and Max. These two chestnut Welsh section A geldings are fed on Allen & Page feeds to keep them in top performance condition, allowing them to perform to their best at HOYS.
Sarah was elated to win this year and said: “It’s been 10 years since I last won and it felt like it did the first time round and that was back in 92! The boys deserved to win the way they performed all week. The ponies this year just got better as the week went on. Sometimes you can find that the week can be rather tiring on them as it is so different to their normal routine. This year they just sparkled from day one, took it all in their stride and, as the results show, we’re on a winning streak!”
Sarah feeds Bow Allen & Page Ride & Relax. She says: “This feed suits him as he is the older pony and I just wanted him to feel really good in himself coming up to the show.” Arrow is fed on Fast Fibre as he has a tendency to put on too much weight, although he is a keen worker.” As they are native ponies, Sarah also has to watch them both for laminitis.
Following their amazing win, the boys are enjoying some well-deserved time off as Sarah explains: “The boys are now enjoying a winter’s rest; they have just had their shoes taken off and will spend their days out but do come in every night (as I am soft like that!) I will continue to feed Fast Fibre over the winter to both of them and will start their fitness routine around the end of March. The main aim is to keep the boys happy and giving the boys a break over the winter keeps them fresh and revived for the following season.”
