Who are the Veteran Vitality Challenge winners?
Thursday 30 June 2011
Now the winners of our Veteran Vitality Challenge have been chosen, we thought we would show you the lucky horses and ponies that have won free feed for a year! These amazing horses have shown great transformations in condition, behaviour and movement, so congratulations and enjoy the free feed!
Geraldine Astbury and Delta Wind Delta Wind is an ex-racehorse and broodmare that lives out year round but struggled to maintain condition. After four weeks on Veteran Vitality owner Mrs Astbury from Burntwood says: “I have a happy 29-year-old, never been better! Running around like a two-year-old. She used to be stiff but it’s the best she has moved in years.”

Lisa Cason and Mack 33-year-old Welsh Section D Mack is a real family pony. Owned by Lisa Cason from Bungay in Suffolk since he was four, this old gent is now teaching her young son to ride, with the partnership winning the overall Gymkhana Championship at their local riding club. “With his previous feed I have been unable to improve his topline despite my best efforts,” says Lisa, but Mack now looks great after four weeks on Veteran Vitality. Mack also suffered from itchy skin and a poor coat, but happily Lisa reports that: “the difference in his coat is beyond belief.” Lisa is overjoyed that cheeky Mack is back on form and feeling well: “He has always been very easy to handle and manage and doesn’t have a nasty bone in his body, but he is a Welsh so he does have a cheeky side and this part of his character has started to shine again. I feel I am doing my very best for him by continuing with this feed for the rest of his days.”

Fiona Thomson and Southern Comfort “I decided to feed Veteran Vitality to my 28-year-old Standardbred who I have owned since she was two,” says Fiona Thomson from Peterhead, Aberdeenshire. Comfy was being ridden but was then retired, however after brightening up on her new diet Mrs Thomson thought: “Maybe I shouldn’t have given up on her ridden days.” Comfy is now competing with a teenager at the local Pony Club and her owner says: “I can now see the wonderful competition pony I competed on so proudly. I suppose the moral of the story is – don’t give up on your horse/pony because of their age, it’s only a number at the end of the day.”

Fran Cutforth and Bandit Irish Sports Horse Bandit is a real Veteran Vitality success story, as owner Fran Cutforth from Wittering explains: “Bandit is a 32-year-old rescue horse who came to me with a large mouth injury resulting in an open scar to the left side of his mouth, so he tends to drop more food than he eats. Also, years of wind sucking has left him with no upper front teeth so the texture of Veteran Vitality means he can get it into his mouth and it stays there – he manages to finish all his food without wasting any at all.” In just four weeks of feeding Veteran Vitality, Bandit put on a much-needed 20kg and he came through the winter looking wonderful, with good condition and a great looking coat.
Annabelle Gage and Teddy “He always finds winters hard and becomes very irritable, refusing to stay out in the field for more than 15 minutes,” was how Annabelle Gage from Thetford described her 19-year-old thoroughbred Teddy before starting the Veteran Vitality Challenge. Four weeks after changing his feed, Annabelle says: “He is like a different horse, very calm, affectionate and is spending all day out in the field, even when it’s raining! His coat is also shinier and he is maintaining condition better. I honestly have to say I am amazed by the effect that feeding Veteran Vitality has had on Teddy. I never thought a feed could make so much difference to his behaviour.”
