Training days for young riders
Monday 5 January 2009
Talented young riders in British Eventing are set to benefit again from the BEF Coaching Development Programme with a series of training days taking place between January and April.
The British Eventing Coaching Development Programme was set up in 2005, initiated by the BEF World Class Programme, and orchestrated by British Eventing Performance Manager, Yogi Breisner.
The first graduates, Nick Turner, Caroline Moore, Christie Wright, Philip Surl and Clare Turner, formed the Coaching Development Team to offer riders top-class training and the opportunity to attend cross-country performance and safety workshops. Each training day is designed to improve technical ability, knowledge, safety and confidence.
Coaching Development trainer Christie Wright said: "These training days are educational and fun and I'm pleased to say that we have added further days to our 2009 programme. "I'm looking forward to seeing some new and old faces as we go through the year."
The indoor coaching days have practical and theoretical aspects, including course walks, understanding course design and increasing rider awareness through safety education and responsibility. They also cover rider fitness, balance and position and feature the use of DVD rider analysis.
The riding section concentrates on improving technique including pace and rhythm to curving lines and accuracy at fences i.e. corners, arrowheads and angled rails. Meanwhile, outdoor coaching days concentrate on course walking, speed training and practical cross country riding.
The cost for a riding place is £70 and £35 for a non-riding place. To book your place on a training day or for further information visit www.coachingdt.com or call Christie Wright on 07702 309547.
