Applications for the 2008 World Class Development Programme are now open
Wednesday 23 July 2008
Applications for the 2008 World Class Development Programme are now open and you can apply to join the World Class squad. Membership of World Class Performance is based on past and present results, and the rider's perceived potential to contribute to team success at major championships. The squad is selected following discussions between the Discipline Selectors, Performance Managers and the Performance Director.
The World Class Development programme is lottery funded through UKSport and is designed to support talent identification and nurturing of that talent. It underpins the World Class Performance Programme which supports elite preparation and performance at senior international levels.
Riders who are aged between 14 and 30 (on first application) and who see themselves as having the exceptional talent and dedication to ride and win at Olympic level in 2012, 2016 and beyond have the opportunity to be assessed through a three stage process: Stage 1 - Application, Stage 2 - Viewing Trials and Stage 3 - Selection Trials.
Applications for the 2008 World Class Development Programme are now open. To find out if you are eligible to apply read the Selection Policy on the British Equestrian Federation (BEF) website www.bef.co.uk, then follow through the website to find out about answers to frequently asked questions and complete the downloadable application form for your relevant discipline. The best way to complete the form is by saving it on your computer as a Word file, typing your answers in the boxes provided, saving the final document with your name as the title and emailing it back to Debbie Lee at Debbie.lee@bef.co.uk.
Then download and complete the questionnaire to accompany your application form. Post, email or fax (if fax then hard copy must follow in post) completed forms and questionnaires to Debbie Lee at debbie.lee@bef.co.uk no later than the 29th August 2008.
Please note that incomplete applications will not be accepted, applications received after the 29th August 2008 will not be accepted. The dates for the viewing trials and selection trials are at the end of the Selection Policy document. The judges and selectors decisions are final.
Being a member of a World Class programme is not just a 'label', it is a commitment to improving every aspect of your riding career and leaving no stone unturned. You will be expected to attend regular training sessions and trips, set goals and review targets, become fitter, better educated in the management of performance horses and be an excellent ambassador for your sport. If you feel unable or unwilling to commit to any of these then please do not apply.
Further information is available from either the disciplines on www.bef.co.uk or from Debbie Lee, World Class Development Assistant, at the BEF on 02476 698876 , fax: 02479 696484 or Email: debbie.lee@bef.co.uk
