Soaking Feed
The horse's natural diet would consist mainly of grass and other forages which contain a high percentage of water. Often our horses are provided with a diet that is lacking in moisture - remember the rules of feeding 'feed something succulent every day'. There is good reason for this rule as, not only does soaking or dampening a feed add interest to the horse's diet, but more importantly, it provides extra moisture and mimics the horse's natural diet. A soaked feed is particularly beneficial for those horses and ponies that struggle to chew due to worn or missing teeth when it can literally be a life saver.
•Moist feeds have the additional benefit of helping to provide extra water in the diet •Why not try mixing feed with warm water in cold weather to provide a winter warmer? •Soaked feeds are ideal for those horses and ponies that struggle to chew due to worn, loose or missing teeth. •Soaked feeds in the Barley & Molasses Free Range all soak quickly. From Calm & Condition in under 10 minutes, to Fast Fibre in just under 60 seconds! •Even with feeds that do not need to be soaked, we always recommend as good feeding practice that the feed should be dampened well before feeding. Research suggests that by dampening feed in this way you can help to reduce the risk of both choke and colic.
