Feeding Advice for your Horse or Pony

Allen & Page quality horse feeds,
the natural choice...

As a horse feed company, our guiding principle and the driving force behind all decisions is to help owners feed their horses as naturally as possible and to make really useful horse feeds to help with specific feeding problems. Everything we do follows from this principle and we blend state of the art technology and nutrition with traditional values and generations of experience to achieve this aim. Making our horse feeds as natural as possible is always our priority, and we have pushed the market forward in using better ingredients and more natural production.

We were the first horse feed company to receive Vegetarian Society approval for our whole range and led the way on only using Non-GM ingredients. As a manufacturer we are also constantly aware of our impact on the environment and our responsibility to produce our feeds in the greenest way possible. Allen & Page are genuinely striving to improve equine nutrition and educate owners. We are not just here to sell feed; it is all about doing the right thing – ethically, nutritionally and environmentally.

Feeding for Dressage Performance
Dressage requires power, athleticism, concentration and obedience from the horse and feeding to achieve all of these aims can be difficult. Too much energy and the control and concentration may be lost, too little energy and the horse may lack the energy and impulsion required in the arena. Added to this each horse needs to be treated as an individual and other considerations such as condition, temperament and character need to be taken into account, which can make feeding a real challenge. With the help of our ‘Feeding for Dressage Performance' article, we hope choosing a feed which will suit your horse’s needs for dressage performance will be easier. If you would like feeding advice or have any questions about feeding your horse for competition please contact our friendly Nutrition Team, call 01362 822 902 or email helpline@allenandpage.co.uk

Feeding Your Competition Horse
The type of feed you provide your horse with will dictate what type of energy is supplied. Cereal sources such as oats provide the horse with fast release energy which creates ‘oomph’ type energy which is needed for short bursts of activity such as showjumping. However, for horses requiring plenty of stamina, such as eventers, endurance and driving horse’s fast release energy on its own will not provide the horse with enough stamina. This is where using slow release energy sources such as fibre and oil are very useful. Slow release energy provides the horse with sustainable energy that is ideal where stamina is required. With the help of our ‘Competition Feeding' article, we hope choosing a feed which will suit your horse’s needs during the competition season will be easier. If you would like feeding advice or have any questions about feeding your horse for competition please contact our friendly Nutrition Team, call 01362 822 902 or email helpline@allenandpage.co.uk.
